5th Sense (Sitegeist)

Leading London photographic gallery, Proud Camden, lives up to its name with the announcement of its debut exhibition at the newly reborn venue. (2 May '08)

That exhibition is "Glenmorangie 5 Senses" by Mike Figgis and its VIP private-view on 13 May offers an exclusive opportunity to see brand new work from Figgis, the world-renowned Oscar-nominated film-maker and photographer.

Inspired by Glenmorangie and the 5 Senses, the dynamic exhibition brings together sexy, stylish images which push the boundaries of fashion and photography in trademark Figgis digital style.

The exhibition will run exclusively for just two weeks and is set to ignite and invigorate the senses with large, imposing images that entice the viewer.

Mike Figgis' talents encompass writing and film and  his Leaving Las Vegas production, starring Nicholas Cage and Elisabeth Shue, was nominated for five Academy Awards in 1994. Throughout his prolific career, he has worked on feature films, documentaries and photography projects with such luminaries as Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, Francis Ford Coppola, Vivienne Westwood and Kate Moss.

Famous for his inventive use of technology new and old, his first book of photographic stills ‘In the Dark’ allowed him to explore how digital cameras could produce stunning, multitextured images – a theme that has continued through his work.

His film Miss Julie was shot on super 16mm film using split-screen imagery and he took this idea further with ‘Timecode’: a feature film shot entirely using four digital cameras in real time.

Bringing his creativity and imagination to everything from commercial work for Agent Provocateur to specially commissioned shoots for French Liberation and Harpers Bazaar, Figgis continues to break the mould with Glenmorganie 5 senses, an exhibition that will launch Proud Camden with a real taste of the excitement and cutting edge photography to come.

Proud Camden’s combination of bar and gallery space uniquely blends fashionistas and rock stars in a creative coterie where music and photography lovers can indulge
themselves. Proud Camden went on to house the At Proud Bar & Live Music Venue, coined "London’s best kept secret" (Time Out) and hosted live performances by sought-after bands like Dirty Pretty Things, Supergrass, Amy Winehouse and Liam Gallagher, official fashion shows for London fashion Weeks and VIP parties for Paramount.

Event organisers should note that the new space is bigger, with capacity for 700. It also  features touches such as private booths for 20 to 30 guests.

The booths, converted stables, are a reminder of the venue's Horse Hospital heritage and feature designs from the likes of Moët & Chandon.
