Bureau de Swank (Venues)
July 2008 sees the opening of a private members' club which has its sights set on the apex of London’s prestigious establishments. Set in London’s West End, Bureau is located on the oldest club site in Soho – hidden away under Kingly Court. (20 Jun)
Bureau aims to invoke a proprietary sense among its members right down to their choice of music and their own personal cocktail list. The stringent entry policy means that Bureau claims not to operate any guest lists or work with promoters in its drive to unite an eclectic mix of like-minded people. The idea is for guests to arrive at the club feeling that they're at London’s best private party.
This is helped by Bureau's glamorous and luxurious style with classic modern furniture in a space created by Satmoko Ball architects (read Boujis, Volstead and Chinawhite). The rich, striking fabrics used to upholster the elegant 30s-style and contemporary furniture, are complemented by Swarovski Crystal Chandeliers that line the centre of the room with dramatic Chiascuro lighting. The sumptuous interiors offer a sense of occasion whilst maintaining a hint of Soho edginess while vaulted arches add a slightly illicit sense of intimacy to the venue where guests sip their cocktails.
Bureau is a boutique with a capacity of only 80 and membership is by invitation. The champagne and wine lists were compiled by renowned sommelier Angus Macnabb with Dampierre Ambassadeurs as the house champagne (the champagne of choice in over 40 French Embassies worldwide and blind-tasted for Bureau against more than 30 other champagnes). The drinks list has been created with the members' sophisticated taste in mind.
Bureau is driven by offering its members exemplary service with exceptional attention to detail. Tableside mixology will see the barman come to the members' tables to create their cocktails. While members are offered table service, there is no minimum spend required. The bespoke element lies in members' personal drinks profiles being registered on the computer system so that each barman will be alert to preferred choices. Likewise, the continually updated music playlist which takes account of members’ tastes. At 10pm a DJ will whip up the party and take Bureau through to the early hours. Members will not need to navigate a blockade of door staff on arrival, but simply swipe their membership card for access.
"The well-connected and stylish will find that Bureau offers to its members a boutique personalised experience similar to the level of service in a fine dining restaurant," says Bureau manager, Patrick Fogarty.
Bureau Members will be welcomed (with up to three guests) from 12noon until 3.30am Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 6pm to 3.30am. A selection of gourmet bar food is offered all day, and defines Bureau's aspirations to offer the perfect club for business meetings as well as a night out.
