New sales head at ICC (People)
Leading conference venue, The International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham, has appointed Richard Smith (left) its head of conference sales. 12 Sept '08
Formerly
an account director at the ICC, his appointment heralds the expansion
of the existing sales team which will include a successor to his former
post.
The ICC reports the recording of more than £5.5 million
of business since the start of the financial year. Its bullish outlook
puts the venue well ahead of its targets.
“This position has
given me the opportunity to take some really positive steps forward in
terms of developing how we operate as a business, particularly by
developing long-term relationships and contracts with our existing base
of clients," says Richard Smith.
"My main goals are now to focus
on business development, communication, and customer experience as well
as developing the existing sales team.
“I am confident that
while we will be facing challenging market conditions over the next few
years, we will increase our international association business, secure
further deals with the core association market and build closer
relationships with government clients. For The ICC, the future is
looking very strong.”
Geoff Fenlon, General Manager, The ICC
said: “Richard has always been a valuable member of our team and over
his career has developed not only a wealth of experience and knowledge
within the sales sector, but also with The ICC itself.”
The ICC
is now preparing to host the Conservative Party Conference, which
starts on Sunday 28 September and is expected to attract some 10,000
delegates to Birmingham.
