Succession forum (Industry)
Private
banker Coutts & Co is hosting a forum in Leeds on the subject of
business succession. The forum is open to family businesses in the
event industry and beyond and it will air the challenges of running
family enterprises and passing businesses through the family
network. Abigail Parkin 4 (Feb'09)
The forum makes its debut at Leeds' Rudding Park to businesses from Yorkshire and
Humberside
before going nationwide. "Making a success of succession" aims to allow
business owners to network and share ideas and experiences on
strengthening their companies in a challenging economy.
Christopher Oughtred,
shareholder and former chairman of a family business established in
1851, will share his insights at the event. He will also address the
forum on how his family has kept the business in family ownership
across five generations and will continue to through succession plans.
"Succession isn't easy," says Juliette Johnson, senior family business adviser at Coutts. "We have found that families learn best from hearing the experiences of other
families who have been through succession and come out stronger the other
side."
Barbara Jackson, senior banker for Coutts in Leeds comments: "Coutts first
opened its Leeds office in December 1992, some 16 years ago with just three
employees. Today, we have a team of 24, including nine private bankers which
is testament to the growing number of wealth individuals in the region
which, in the main, are self-made millionaires. In fact, today, we can count
around 90% of our local client base as either entrepreneurs, or business
owners, many of which are family owned. So with the current economic strain,
we hope that many this forum will be a couple of hours very well spent."
The forum is free to attend and is open to family business owners, and
employees of a business, with an annual turnover greater than £1m.
Takes place 31st March '09 11.30am - 2.30pm on 31st March 2009, at Rudding
Park, Leeds.
