Riot in Shoreditch (Sitegeist)

Music and film industry luminaries are expected to throng artist Goldie's (above) next UK solo exhibition which opens on 10 April. Entitled "The Kids Are All Riot" it shows at Shoreditch's The Maverik Showroom. Abigail Parkin (6 Feb'09)
The
duplex venue promises a cutting edge transformation which sets the
scene for the exhibition's themes of social decay, conflict and
growing up in Britain today.

The Kids Are All Riot (title painting above right) features a retrospective of prolific works and new originals and Apocalypse Angel, a 27-colour screenprint, will also be released alongside Goldie's new book Heathtown which recounts his early years as a street artist.

Youth
crime is now a firm national concern and the art depicts children out
of control and battling with authority as well as old taboos becoming
the new normal. As such The Kids Are All Riot explores a darker England
informed by the ASBO generation, spray cans and Stanley knives.
The
works will range from £250 to £15,000 with a strong celebrity clientele
in attendance, unsurprising given the artist's pedigree. Emphasising
this, Goldie has just completed artwork for Pete Tong and Faithless’
new record releases.
THE KIDS ARE ALL RIOT - 10 April to 26 April
The Maverik Showroom, 68-72 Redchurch St, Shoreditch, London E2 7DP.
