Meeting spaces - May Fair       (Reviews)

The May Fair Hotel's £75m transformation has revitalised London's meetings industry with spaces that are lavish but finely tuned to business and event needs. Event organisers and their clients can be assured that the very latest audio and visual equipment has been installed to stretch their imaginations and help reassess the meaning of impact.

The Crystal Room (headline pic) lies at the heart of the changes, its name emerging from the largest Baccarat chandelier that the company has ever built for a public space. Guests are immersed in a 20's-style environment of Shagreen-design wall coverings of bronze coloured sheeting with dramatic inlaid black and red Chinese images.

The anticipation to the Crystal Room room builds up at a separate entrance on Berkeley Street - appropriatel given the Busby Berkeley film imagery that the room evokes - and  holds 180 for dinner or 250 theatre-style.

As if to continue the filmic theme a short staircase links the Crystal Room to the May Fair Theatre – the largest private theatre in London with seats for 201. It has a technological  sophistication to match making it an ideal venue for the private screenings of new films with individual Audience Reaction System (ARS) controls in each seat.

A glass-roofed atrium gives suitably spectacular access to the Danziger Suite which is the hotel's second largest room.

Like the Crystal Room, the Danziger – which seats up to 150 for dinner and 200 theatre-style – is linked to the theatre allowing live events to be shown on screen and the ARS to be used for larger events.

The final standalone room is the Amba Salon which leads directly off the hotel’s  restaurant and can seat up to 100 theatre-style.

The versatility of the hotel as an event venue is underlined by a collection of 11 inter-linked rooms which are capable of hosting meetings from six to 120 people. All rooms have either a plasma screen or LCD projection onto a retractable screen. A dedicated Video Conference suite accommodates up to five guests.

The style, location and flexibility of the hotel's spaces make it a serious prospect for major events from charity dinners to weddings and intimate gatherings such as a meeting in a prestigious venue.
