Just the Tikit

Mahiki’s Polynesian playground sees the arrival of two new concepts at the London venue with the addition of a dining area and a Motel and karaoke room. Bethany Hutton-Stigga (8 Jun 11)
Mahiki’s new dining area is located in the lounge area and blends with the nightspot’s vibrant Tiki setting amid hand-made ‘Princess’ chairs and hand-carved wooden figures.
Head chef Darius Endriukaitis brings his New York background to the menu which features the Mahiki burgers, three mini-sliders made with Angus steak, brioche buns and American-style cheese and Iceberg lettuce. Other sharing dishes include individual Canadian lobster nachos with guacamole, duck confit egg rolls with sweet plum sauce and truffle and wild mushroom parcels.
More substantial dishes include “straight up” chargrilled rib-eye steak, served with fries and a fine mixed leaf and slow roast tomato salad and grilled baby lamb cutlets marinated in rosemary and served with caponata.
No-Tell Motel Room
Based loosely around a 1970s motel, the downstairs are of the club boasts the Mahiki Southern Comfort No-Tell Motel Room with shag pile carpeting and kitsch a-plenty. The central karaoke machine where guests can entertain themselves with a diverse range of song choices.
The bar at the Mahiki Motel is a vivid menu of classic and new innovations, cocktails for one or cocktails to share. Cocktails include the signature Mahiki ; a riot of Appleton VX and a hint of Salor Jerry, shaken with fresh pear and strawberry purees, lemon, sugar and crème de fraise, topped with cava. Also on board are the Pina Colada and old-timer the Mahiki Treasure Chest. The cocktails are served in specific ceramic tiki vessels especially designed and handcrafted for Mahiki. More bizarre cocktail receptacles are pineapples, coconuts, ceramic skulls, diver’s helmets and even a treasure chest.
Despite its revellers including Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Kate Moss, Rihanna, Mickey Rourke, Emma Watson, Zac Efron, Prince Harry, and Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley, Mahiki maintains a “no membership” rule and no guest list.
What they said:
“We are thrilled to be serving food in the lounge and opening an entirely new room in the club at Mahiki and I think we’ve remained so popular because of our camp style and ethos. Our guests can really relax and have fun with us and we look forward to checking them into the Mahiki Southern Comfort Motel soon.” Nick House – Mahiki founder.
