The Found Generation  (Events - Exhibitions)

Photography, film and art converge tomorrow when Olyvia Kwok presents "Z Generation/The Realm of Ambiguity."

This exhibition of work by the contemporary Italian artist Marco Bolognesi features striking first edition photographs of
futuristically fashioned females.

Bethany Hutton-Stigga (24 June '09)

The extraordinary images will be portrayed alongside the artist’s award winning film Black Hole and both will be exhibited as part of an installation - the interior of a spaceship - which Bolognesi will recreate from a still of this new film.

Black Hole's alternative universe sees technology take control and in his photographs Bolognesi uses collage technique to introduce natural and artificial elements. The imagery is Madame Butterfly meets punk fetishism and raises questions about the characters portrayed; compliantsubmissives or mistresses in control?

In addition to his strong interest in film, Bolognesi has worked closely with the field of fashion.

In 2003/2007 he created Woodland, a cycle of stills in collaboration with cutting edge fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Kei Kagami and Dolce & Gabbana.

Studio images of powerful, beautiful women were combined with tribal art,fetish and punk culture, and endeavour which culminated in the series of photographs in this exhibition.

The exhibition will include photographs from three projects including
SYNTEBORG: Graceful, Antigraceful, Artificial, “cyborg” beauties, created with mysterious props taken from every day life; CYBORG FACES: The lost beauty of the future, faces of women constructed with computer components, connectors and microchips, which are the “ruins” of the modern world;
GEIKO: Depicts women as both executioners and victims
.
