All on board

The International Special Events Society (ISES) recently reconstituted with the election of Concerto Group's Mike Kershaw into the presidency of the ISES UK Chapter. Sat Bal listened to the ISES board's plans to build on the legacy of outgoing president, Robert Wright, with the focus on "Let’s Do Business!"

Mike Kershaw, President ISES UK -Concerto Group
Over the next three years, ISES will be focused on its core mission: “To
create professional development opportunities for our members through
communication, education and networking, and, in so doing, foster higher
standards across our industry”
ISES is about obtaining real benefits, useful knowledge and valuable relationships. We have some excellent ‘master-classes’ in the pipeline, great networking events planned, and we have developed a number of partnerships with organisations such as Visit London and Insurex Expo-Sure amongst others, where ISES members can receive significant discounts. Nathan Homan, VP Education -Rouge Partnership

As VP Education, I am very excited about the year ahead and plan to significantly extend the current range of educational opportunities available to members. In addition to the annual European Conference I will be producing a series of tailored Breakfast Briefings covering a wide range of issues and targeted at specific groups within the membership. I also plan to utilise the ISES website as an online educational resource which will of course be available to all.
Finally, I will be developing relationships with all universities throughout the UK offering event management degrees with the objective of improving course content and, more importantly, finding the new generation of industry leaders. Working closely with these bodies I hope to develop an ISES student accreditation scheme which will be awarded to the most talented students. Profiles of accredited students will then be placed on the ISES website for all members to use when recruiting for their teams of the future.

ISES Membership means a lot!
This ISES year, we are delighted to be introducing (for the first time) your ISES membership card. This card has been introduced for a number of reasons. Firstly, with all ISES now has to offer, we feel it is important to create a strong sense of belonging and a general ‘community’ ethos, in line with our new motto. With this in mind, we will be announcing a regular series of ‘member benefits’.
A whole range of participating venues, members' clubs, suppliers and even retailers will be posting their ISES member offers on a regular basis on www.isesuk.org – so please check this regularly. Your new membership card will also display your membership number, which can be used in conjunction with the website, enabling you to buy event/conference tickets online for the first time.
Zanine Adams, VP Marketing -Visit London
I'm
delighted to be VP Marketing for the second year running. London has
the most creative events industry in the world, and it is a key factor
in attracting business visitors and corporate events to the capital.
With ISES members representing the cream of the event industrythis is the perfect opportunity to work together to further enhance London's reputation and assist in the future development of ISES as a major hub of creativity.
I will be continuing to help raise the profile of ISES within the event industry, supporting the VP membership, and working with industry colleagues to increase brand exposure and business development for all of our members.
The year ahead is set to be extremely exciting, with many new ideas flourishing. Please do drop me a line if you have any new ideas that you would like us to implement.
Andy Callin, VP Finance - Sound by Design

The past year has seen ISES UK consolidating its position as a major focus for the UK event industry. As an organisation, we are growing rapidly. This means being much more business-like within the UK Chapter, taking it forward and having an infrastructure that works for both members and the ISES Board members who juggle full- time commitments the demands of ISES.
These are exciting times for the Chapter. Our incorporation as a limited company with full-time administrative support will put us in a very strong position for the coming year, enabling us to better serve the members and sponsors. Our increasing profile within the UK event industry will attract more leading players which can only be positive for our membership.
Jacqui Partridge, VP Events -Partridge Events

I am delighted to accept the position of VP Events for the fourth consecutive year and wish to continue to bring fun, informative and educational events to the membership. We at ISES are dedicated to showcasing the talents of new and established caterers, venues, entertainment and other various event suppliers.
Your support is vital to us and without the generosity of our suppliers the events could not happen. Please get in touch if you would like the opportunity to showcase your venue or product. We are also looking for inspirational and educational speakers relevant to the event industry.
We had a fantastic calendar of events last year and hope to have an even more successful year with your help.
Natasha Rayment, VP Communication -Harden's
My work at Harden’s over the past two and a half years has helped grow and expand the Harden’s Party, Conference & Event Guide in book and online formats.
In the year ahead I aim to use my knowledge and experience to help broaden the communication of ISES to event planners and organisers in other industries. I want to begin by improving the ISES website and newsletter. I also plan to target other industry bodies and explain how events can help their marketing and the value of ISES members assisting with all their event needs.
Responsible for all online activity, the VP Communications works to ensure ISES is connected with members and with raising the ISES profile externally. The VP also organises all PR opportunities and editorial.
