Blackout was briefed by Pandemonium Productions Ltd to provide all rigging and draping for Brunel University’s Graduation Ceremonies

The event took place at the Indoor Athletics Centre in the presence of Mayor Boris Johnson (left).

The Spec
Approximately 250m of truss for lighting, sound, AV, the set and drapes, hung on 36 motors. Grey wool serge drapes were used for the graduation presentation stage and   black wool serge blocked out all window light. Black wool serge drapes with white filled cloth drapes created an arched effect accentuating the curved ends of the room. Bespoke white Eclipse drapes covered the skylights enabling the projection screens to display clearly while blue velour drapes formed the backdrop to the stage.

Challenges
Blackout had to work with a sensitive floor area of rubberised indoor athletics space.

Special precautions included using a smaller cherry picker than usual but Blackout’s experience with sensitive builds meant quick and efficient turnaround of the job which was project managed by Blackout’s Tom Lambert.

Feedback
“This is the third year Pandemonium has had the privilege of organising the Brunel Graduation Ceremony at the Indoor Athletics Centre. We have a remit to protect the fabric of the building in production and are always delighted with the professionalism and care shown by the Blackout staff in supporting this remit.” Simon Garrett - Production Director, Pandemonium.
