Jackson O2 dates announced (Events)

Michael Jackson took centre stage for a press call at the O2 Arena yesterday to announce 10 shows in July at the venue. Predictably, the O2 resonated with the screams of assembled fans as Jackson insisted that the London shows would be his last. Sat Bal (6 Mar '09)
The
King of Pop arrived in familiar sunglasses and military-chic jacket
after a wait of over an hour. Still, this was rather less than the 12
years fans have been waiting for Jackson to perform in London.
"This is it," exclaimed Jackson signifying that the summer shows would be his last in London. “I am coming to Londonto play the songs my fans want to hear.”
Promoter AEG Live promised a greatest hits performance with a production effort to match and a fitting roster of prestigious support acts. “We are delighted to facilitate the return of The King of Pop, long may he reign!" said Rob Hallett, president of international touring, AEG Live.
"Michael at The 02 this summer will surely be the highlight of
the musical year. When Michael Jackson performs, the eyes of the world
will be watching. Look out for an international flavour to the
audience, as these will be his only concerts in the world this year!”
The
promotional machine starts this Sunday Mar 8 with an exclusive new
Michael Jackson video airing his dramatic performances over the years.
This will be screened at 9:30pm on ITV and makes Jackson the only
artist ever to take over an entire ad break.
The securing of the dates is the latest coup for the O2 Arena which has hosted huge international acts and comeback performances. Britney Spears plays eight nights at the venue in June while Prince famously performed a 21-night residency at the O2 in 2007.

One of the world’s most popular entertainers Michael Jackson has sold over 750 million units worldwide and is one of very few artists to be inducted twice into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognised Michael Jackson as the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time" and Thriller as "The Biggest Selling Album of All Time." Jackson has also won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award’s Artist of the Century Award.
Show opens with 10 nights at the O2 Arena on July 8th. Tickets £75 / £65 / £50 (plus booking fees) on public sale at 7am Friday, March 13th
