Whatever the unpredictability in the economy a Sol Kerzner resort launch predictably involves a fanfare and an international guest list. The luxury hotelier’s Cape Town venue opening on Thursday was no exception, particularly as it was his first hotel opening in his home country since 1992. Sat Bal (6 Apr'09)
The 131-room property is located in Cape Town’s fashionable Waterfront district and joins award-winning One&Only resorts in the Maldives, Mauritius, Dubai, Bahamas and Mexico. One&Only Cape Town offers a stunning vista of Table Mountain and Signal Hill and guests can combine stays with adventures from South Africa’s premier safari lodge, Singita Game Reserves.
The
celebrity attendance at the launch was akin to a Cannes premiere party
and included Mariah Carey, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon
and Thandie Newton.
Chef
Gordon Ramsay featured prominently with the launch of his first
restaurant in Africa at the resort, Maze while Robert De Niro opens
Nobu. Maze also set the scene for a private lunch with Nelson Mandela (above), a long-standing friend of Sol Kerzner’s.
Accommodation at the resort features sports clean lines, dark African woods and contemporary artwork by local artisans accentuates the 131 spacious rooms and suites - the largest in all of Cape Town.

The generous interior spaces feature fabrics and furnishings which evoke the warm, muted tones of Africa's savannahs, with vibrant splashes of colour paying tribute to the land's vibrant personality. Sumptuously appointed oversized baths are complete with roomy rain shower, private water closet and dual marble vanity.

unobstructed views of the picturesque harbourside and iconic Table
