Sound move by Orbital

Back to front Russell Goodwin, Eric Simpson and Tim Sherratt.
Audio expert, Orbital Sound, has launched an Events Communications
division to provide integrated communications management and offer
solutions for sound infrastructure on major productions.
Orbital's experience includes the handling of all on-site comms for The Jubilee in 2003 and, most recently, the entire comms solution for Liverpool European City of Culture celebrations. The dedicated division is poised to meet a growing demand for seamless integration with the latest ground breaking technology including matrix key panels and TETRA.
From concerts and festivals to sporting and cultural events, awards evenings and gala dinners, the new Events Communications team, based at Orbital’s Brixton based HQ, will work with all levels of production crew. The team aims to encompass areas ranging from stage management to emergency services and bring about improved public safety as well as ensuring ultra-slick operations and crystal clear communication, even across multiple linked sites.
Led by Orbital’s Tim Sherratt, Russell Goodwin and Eric Simpson who together combine over 20 years experience in the events and broadcast industries will offer full 24/7 service and support as well as realistic and practical advice.
“We’re teaming up with new manufacturing partners to provide our hardware infrastructure," explains Tim Sherratt. "The principle is to introduce the concept of matrix key-panels and TETRA into the live event industry. Key panels are programmable control units which allow a production team to communicate with walkie-talkies, mobile phones, landlines, or any variation thereof, site-wide, or across multiple sites. Site-wide signal distribution is via an optical network, allowing comms to be laid along existing cable runs without fear of interference. In fact, it can be configured easily to communicate re SMS, create unlimited talk and listen groups. TETRA can also work across the country, for example, linking the festival site directly to the production’s staff at head office - say in London.”
