Kris-crossing the globe
The non-stop world of event organisers and corporate delegates is set to continue at 35,000 feet with recent innovations from Singapore Airlines. Its new “KrisWorld eX2” system lays claim to being the world’s most powerful and advanced in-flight entertainment system. For those who need to brush up on the client’s brief, a suite of office applications allows flyers to work on spreadsheets, presentations and other productivity aids.
Singapore Airlines’ pioneering stance was also documented recently when it became the world’s first airline to take delivery of, and fly, the Airbus A380 525-seat capacity super-jumbo. Singapore opted for 471 seats in order to provide added passenger comfort.
Such firsts inspired the airline to explore the potential of new technologies for the benefit of its customers. Accordingly, its new generation of aircraft are equipped with hundreds of options to help while away those air miles or use them productively. The KrisWorld eX2 system encompasses everything from film and opera to office applications, all accessible through one user-friendly console.
Newer PC applications such as Media Player, Photo Viewer and PDF Reader are all here and customers can plug in their own USB devices or digital cameras, effectively bringing their laptop onto the flight. USBs can be plugged in and all visuals summoned through the
1280 x 768 high-resolution screens which span across all three classes of the aircraft.
As well as updating its titles for gamers the airline is introducing an interactive ZagatSurvey Restaurant and Hotel Guide so that customers can plan their dining and destination stay virtually while airborne.
The flag carrier has dispensed with the idea of a “first class” in favour of its new Singapore Airlines Suites (pictured below) which it dubs “a class beyond first” with luxury to match.
Each exclusive Suite provides the customer with a private cocoon facilitated by sliding doors and self-adjustable roller-blinds. The Suite contains an opulent leather chair, upholstered by the world-renowned Poltrona Frau. Fully adjustable with a simple-to-use control panel, the seat can be adjusted to fit any sitting or lounging positions.

Standalone full-sized beds measure in at 27 inches by 78 inches with Givenchy-designed duvets and cushions promising a comfortable onboard sleep. Moreover, the unique design of the Singapore Airlines Suite means the bed does not utilise the seat for the sleeping surface. On waking, customers on long haul flights receive an exclusive Ferragamo amenity kit, featuring the latest Ferragamo fragrance, F by Salvatore Ferragamo.
Business Class is no slouch either and Singapore Airlines’ seats on the A380 are claimed to be the largest in the industry, transformable into the largest full-flat business class bed in the sky.
The KrisWorld eX2 is designed to keep passengers in all classes occupied in Singapore’s B777-300ERs and A380 super-jumbos.
“Being the first to launch the eX2, applications were introduced on a familiar platform and our immediate focus was to provide for a wide and comprehensive suite of applications,” says Mr Yap Kim Wah, Singapore Airlines Senior Vice-President Product and Services. "This is to cater to the growing needs of our customers of varying ages. What you see now is only the beginning and more will be added."
